DOT Registration & Filings

Hazmat Carrier

Annual PHMSA HAZMAT registration and the Hazardous Materials Safety Permit (HMSP) required by FMCSA.

Enrolling in HAZMAT Registration

The regulations established by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) necessitate that those who offer or transport specific quantities and types of hazardous materials (HAZMAT), which also encompass hazardous wastes, must annually submit a registration statement and pay a fee. This fee contributes to funding grants for hazardous materials emergency response planning and training for States, Indian tribes, nonprofit organizations, and select professional associations. The program, initiated in 1992, is overseen by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) under the Department of Transportation.

Hazardous Materials Safety Permit (HMSP)

For motor carriers engaged in intra-state, inter-state, and cross-border transportation of specific quantities and categories of hazardous materials (HM), holding a Federal Hazardous Materials Safety Permit (HMSP) is a mandated requirement by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
